911, what is your emergency?
If there was a special emergency number where we could report deprivation, need and trouble…
A week or so after wishing each other well on our country’s National Day, we put our pre-prepared bags in the trunk, checked the clock, which read a little past 9am, and the thermometer, which confirmed the cold, then headed out into the field.
We chose a village with about 4000 inhabitants, near Vaslui. By distributing the food bags, we intend to bring joy to some of the needy elderly and families in difficult situations during this holiday season.
Our joy was also shared by the village’s police station chief, who was already prepared with a list of needy people. Together with him, we walked through muddy roads, looking for the gates to knock on.
In contrast to the desolate landscape, we noticed the country’s flag, raised towering on a flagpole, abandoned in the cold since 1 December. Lord, bless Romania!

We offered everything we had on us, although it wasn’t much. Even though we were only able to cover a small part of people’s needs, we managed to bring joy and hope. However, their joy was not only in what they received. Familiar with the gaps, they appreciated that someone had thought of them. That means you, people with a heart for people, who supported this activity.
And, yes, there is no emergency number where we can report deprivation, need and trouble, but there is something even more valuable. A better option. It is God to whom we can appeal.
